Frankie Boots
I met Frankie Boots when I was twenty via MySpace. He was about ten years my senior, making music, forming bands, partying, and finding ways to keep it going. I thought he had figured out the bohemian artist life. I was still figuring out how to get into concerts for free.
Over fifteen years, we’ve spent time together off and on: touring across the country, hanging around studios, partying, and eventually celebrating his wedding. These photographs are a few selections from those years of Frankie living his life between the things people buy tickets to see him do.
Arguably, neither of us became famous in the sense of being in the pantheon of the greatest artists in our respective crafts. I’m much older now than he was when we met, and he’s still making music. I’m still making photographs. Looking back, I think that commitment to his craft was what I admired before I understood it myself.
